Short film on Alzheimer’s from Jahnu Barua on Youtube
Jahnu Barua’s short film in Assamese, That Gusty Morning, shows the story of a family where the wife/ mother has Alzheimer’s. This 21 minute film is available on Youtube. This shows a mother who has Alzheimer’s and shows some forgetting of names and other details and is confused. The family is handling care through various adjustments. The story is about a small event – the daughter is tense because her boyfriend is coming home to discuss their marriage with her parents, and she doesn’t know how he will react to the mother’s behaviour. She has been scared about telling her boyfriend about her mother because of a bad experience with someone earlier. Fortunately the boyfriend seems to be very comfortable with the mother and knows just how to talk to her in an affectionate, gentle way. This simple film doesn’t convey much about dementia, care, progression, etc., but is touching and is being included mainly as there is so little material in Assamese.
